Good, but Not So Good

Sat Jul 7, 2012, 1:57 PM
  • Mood: Worried
  • Drinking: Coke
As of Monday, July 2nd, we opened up our business La Lonchera: Pollo BBQ in front of San Pablo Hospital in Santa Cruz. Overall for the week, we made about $200 dollars, which I will admit is great, but at the same time, it's not.

When Mami and Papi applied for the COFECC loan, they requested for $45,000.00 because that is precisely how much we needed. We did not get that. Instead, we got $40,000.00. The problem is that not only did we spend that money, but Mami and Papi spent money from their own pockets to get most of what we needed. Since this place has been closed for three months, we have to start from scratch.

The next problem is that since we have to start from scratch, we are having to use the money that we earned  from customers on things we need, but were not able to get before. Yesterday, we went to Jose Santiago to get ketchup packets and paper and plastic bags. This also means that Mami and I won't be getting a paycheck anytime soon. But truth be told, I don't really care about that. What really worries me is that Mami and Papi will be going behind on bills and such. Which ones, I have no idea. But knowing that they'll be about a month behind worries me greatly.

I just hope that soon, we'll be doing better as far as business goes. I know we have a slight disadvantage since neither Mami and I can speak Spanish, but I know things will get better. They have to get better. Here's hoping... :fingerscrossed:

Edit 08-07-12: And worse it just might get. Right now we have Angelo, my cousin's boyfriend helping us out. But at the moment, we don't have enough to pay him...or ourselves for that matter. So Mami was talking to Myriam a while ago and Mami said that we might have to let him go. Here's the problem, aside from Papi, we have no one else who speaks Spanish to help us. With Papi still having to keep his job at CVS, we're a bit stuck because on says that he has to work from midnight to 7 or whatever, he doesn't get home until 9 or 10. So this leaves Mami and I this many hours having to take on the customers ourselves. Mami even said that Tio Louis probably won't be with us long because she says that he gets bored too easily or something among those lines. I'm freaking out here. Really I am. We need some major prayers guys. I really want this to work.

Papi also said that he's going to as for a transfer at the new CVS store they just finished building near San Patricio and also ask for the second shift so he'll be working from 5 to midnight. That way we'll have him in the morning. Let's hope this works.

Aw, nuts! I'm just hoping that this all doesn't eventually lead to you having to close down La Lonchera.

I don't think it'll reach that point. At least I hope it doesn't lead to that. We've sacrificed too much to give in now.

What's nice about slow work days is it's not hectic and stressful. Yet, at the same time, it's bad days because very little money is coming in. Christine and I went to Disneyland on a very non-crowded day and we loved it. We were talking to a Cast Member and he said slow days hurt the business. That's why I pray you keep your business booming on a daily basis. It may get nuts, but you'll be getting bigger sales.

Well we're open Monday through Friday. Vendors aren't open during the weekends for some reason. But I'm hoping things work the way we want it. It would have been a lot easier on us if we got the extra $5, 000.00 that we were not given for some off reason. But thank you, Sabrina. I guess all I ask is for major prayers. That's all we really need right now.

Thanks, Iona. I mean, I'm glad that things are doing so well and I guess I appreciate that on the first day we weren't slammed with customers, but it seems that it's not how I pictured it. At the same time, it is. If that makes any sense at all. :XD: I still think though that we do have quite the advantage though because we deliver and we'll be having an IVU machine soon. So we'll be acception credit and debit cards.
